<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new crosslinkable ring-bearing nitro- or amino-phenol that is useful as a starting monomer or intermediate for more high heat-resistant and high functional polymer. <P>SOLUTION: The crosslinkable ring-bearing nitro- or amino-phenol is represented by formula (1) (wherein ring A is a crosslinkable hydrocarbon ring which may be substituted, Ar is an aromatic ring group which may be substituted, X is nitro or amino group which may protected with a protecting group, n is an integer of 0 through 3, the hydroxy groups in the formula may be protected with a protecting group; the compound that has X groups bonding to individual Ars on the ortho position of the hydroxy groups is particularly preferred.
