PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing process of a high purity zinc oxide powder with a purity level of 99.9999 mass% from a commercially available zinc oxide with a purity of around 99.99 mass%. SOLUTION: The manufacturing process involves the steps (1)-(4) below. Step (1): Metal zinc is dissolved in a hydrochloric acid solution. Step (2): The zinc chloride aqueous solution obtained in the step 1 is brought into contact with an anion exchange resin to make zinc and impurity elements adsorbed. Eluents with different hydrochloric acid contents are passed through the resin after the adsorption to separately obtain and recover an eluent in which the impurity elements are concentrated and an eluent in which zinc is concentrated. Step 3: Ammonium hydroxide (NH<SB>4</SB>OH) is added to the zinc-concentrated eluent obtained in the step (2) for neutralization to obtain zinc hydroxide.
