PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition meeting the general characteristics required for active matrix liquid crystal display(AM-LCD), wide in nematic phase range and small in refractive index anisotropy. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal composition is characterized by comprising a component I consisting of at least one of compounds of formula (I) and a component II consisting of at least one compound selected from the group of compounds of respective formulas (II-1) to (II-7) (in the above formulas, R1 to R4 are each an alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxymethyl or alkenyl; Z1 and Z2 are each a single bond or C2H4; Z3 to Z5 are each a single bond, C2H4, COO or CH=CH; X1 is F, Cl, CF3, OCF2H or OCF3; and Y1 and Y2 are each H or F). |
