Oxytetracycline is produced in a conventional manner by culturing streptomyces BS/1943 (deposited at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures, Baarn, under C.B.S. 50266) in a nutrient medium, preferably under submerged aerobic conditions. A typical production medium contains maize starch, maize flour, lucern flour, Zea mais filtrate, soybean flour, (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , NH 4 Cl, MnSO 4 , CoCl 2 , KH 2 PO 4 , ZnSO 4 , FeSO 4 , CaCO 3 , SrCO 3 , pork fat and water.
