A crystalline zeolite which has the crystalline structure of mordenite contains less than 3 wt.% of alumina, excluding water conent, and has a silica: alumina molar ratio in the zeolite of at least 55:1, pref. 100:1. In the mfe, mordenite is calcined in the "exchanged hydrogen form", or a precursor of this form and the calcined mordenite is leached with an acid so as to reduce the aluina content to a predetermined value. |
