PURPOSE:To obtain a mold material which can cast pure titanium or titanium alloy by constituting said material of a main material consisting essentially of spinel and a hardener constituted of a phosphate and basic metallic oxide. CONSTITUTION:The spinel as the main material is weighed in a 50-95wt% range, the phosphate as the hardener at 2.5-15wt% and magnesium oxide as the basic metallic oxide at 2.5-30wt%. The mixture composed thereof is kneaded with colloidal silica or water and the kneaded matter is packed into a vessel in which a wax pattern constituting a mold space is held embedded. The kneaded matter is allowed to cure of itself. The cured mold is dewaxed by heating and is further heated to calcine. The calcined mold is cooled down to an ordinary temp. and is used for casting.
