BULGE RESISTANT CONTAINER

A paperboard container for resisting bulging when accommodating a bulk product is disclosed including a substantially planar bottom panel, a substantially continuous side wall extending upwardly from the bottom panel, and a brim curl formed about an upper periphery of the side walls, with at least the portion of the side wall extending along the major axis of the container being curved inwardly along its length so as to resist the bulging of the container when the bulls product is placed therein. In order to assure proper sealing of a lid placed on the container, the diameter of the brim curl extending in the direction of the major axis of the container may be of a greater radius of curvature than the remaining portions of the brim curl. Further, the radius of curvature of the longitudinally extending side wall is such that a ratio of the diameter of the brim curl at the midpoint of the longitudinally extending side wall of the container to the radius of curvature is less than or equal to 0.015 and preferably approximately 0.005.
