PURPOSE:To realize a multicolor display, by increasing the duty with use of an active matrix obtained by transistor switching or a nonlinear element and opening/closing the dot containing a color filter by means of a negative microshutter. CONSTITUTION:Color filters of red 8, green 9 and blue 10 are formed into a mosaic or stripe shape on a glass substrate 1, and a transparent electrode 5 is provided via a protecting film. An element layer 3 containing an array of switching elements or nonlinear elements is formed on a glass substrate 2, and a transparent driving electrode layer 4 corresponding to each dot of the color filter is formed at the upper part of the layer 3. A negative G-H type liquid crystal body of black group is used, and all colors can be displayed in gradations by controlling the state under which the liquid crystal body is turned semitransparent. The blur of light can be prevented by setting the size of the color filter larger than that of the effective shutter part of the liquid crystal. |
