PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable phase change optical recording medium that can make high density and high speed recording but does not deteriorate its characteristics even after repeated recording. SOLUTION: This recording medium has a phase change recording layer whose phase changes amorphous or crystalline reversibly when irradiated with light and a surface to irradiate on the side of the transparent base. A lower dielectric protective layer, a recording layer, an upper dielectric protective layer, and a reflective heat radiator layer are laminated in this order on the transparent base, the upper dielectric protective layer consists of a mixture of ZrO2 and SiO2 and its composition is expressed by the following formula. (ZrO2 )100-x(SiO2 )x 0<x<60 (mol%). |
