RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DIGITAL VCR

PURPOSE: A video recorder/player of a D-VCR(Digital Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to record/reproduce digital signals with a regular video tape by recording the same digital signals on multiple tracks depending on a high- or low-density tape. CONSTITUTION: An input/output unit(51) inputs digital signals or outputs played digital signals. A recording/reproducing signal processor(53) converts the digital data into recording form of a tape and records/reproduces the signals. A rotary head drum(55) has a video head(55a) for recording/producing the signals on a video tape(54). A servo controller(56) controls traveling of the video tape and rotation of the rotary head drum. A clock generator(57) supplies reference clocks for servo control to the servo controller. A system controller(58) decides a recording or a reproducing mode depending on kinds of tapes as well as performs clock generation and system control depending on the selected mode. A tape detector(59) detects the kinds of tapes. Therefore, the digital signals are recorded/reproduced automatically without data loss.
