PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide material paper for press pocket type carrier tape in which effect in prevention of generation of paper powder is remarkably improved.SOLUTION: The present invention is material paper for press pocket type carrier tape which is formed multi-layered paper formation, and which comprises a surface layer, at least 1 middle layer and backside layer. Moisture content measured conforming to JIS-P-8127:2010 is 5.5 mass% or more and 8.5 mass% or less. The middle layer contains 30 mass% or more and 40 mass% or less of bleached coniferous kraft pulp as material pulp. The surface layer and middle layer contain 0.2 mass% or more and 1 mass% or less of wet strengthening agent. It is preferable that average stretching rate in longitudinal direction upon humidity is changed from 20% to 80% under environment at 23°C temperature is 0.12% or more and 0.2% or less and that average stretching rate in transverse direction is 0.54% or more and 0.65% or less.
