Ships hold safety system

Cargo (14,34,36) and/or ships hold (12,12A,12B,12C) are equipped with airbag modules (18,26,28) whose bag can change from a small volume size when at rest to an inflated large volume which stabilises the cargo and prevents movement sliding etc. Module (28) at least connects to an external pressurised gas source (32) of the vessel (10) and (28) is permanently installed and linked to source by pipe hose (30). Modules (18,26) have their own gas producers and can be fitted temporarily to particular items of cargo or hold structure. Each air bag module is connected to a control and release device itself circuited with a movement and/or position sensor, each temporarily fitted airbag being linked to the control and release system by a contact e.g. plug. Each of the airbags has its own overpressure valve connected in turn to an excess gas absorber used to shut off leaks and/or for buoyancy and/or stabilising.
