An assembly receives uncooked sausages and transports them in a first direction from a filling section (10) through a cooking chamber to a packing line. In the direction of travel, the machine has a transport unit (12) passing through the filing section, a loading station (16), stacking stations (18,42), two sideways transfer stations (24,30), de-stacking stations (34,46), a second transport unit (36), an unloading station (38), a conveyer belt (40), and a buffer sector (44). Parallel to the cooking chamber (28) is an elongated sector with the output side of the second sideways-transfer station, the de-stacking stations, the stacking stations, the buffer sector, and the input side of the first sideways transfer station.
