PURPOSE: A control method of a drain pump is provided to prolong a life span of the drain pump and to reduce noise by selectively operating the drain pump. CONSTITUTION: In starting a dehydrating process, a drain pump is operated to drain water of an outer tub outside a washing machine. An inner tub loosens the laundry not to be twisted and holds a balance by rotating at low speed. The drain pump is operated when a pressure value of a pressure sensor is over a predetermined value. Otherwise, the drain pump is stopped. In finishing an initial dehydrating time, the inner tub is rotated at high speed to perform a main dehydration. The drain pump is operated when a pressure value of a pressure sensor is over a predetermined value. Otherwise, the drain pump is stopped. A breakage of the drain pump at winter is prevented by operating the drain pump for a predetermined time after the main dehydration. |
