The sealing disc for a flap valve has a stepped periphery, carrying a ring secured by bolts so as to clamp between them a sealing ring. This is U-shaped in section, and houses a resilient ring between its arms, with the remaining space occupied by a filling ring with one face concave to match the shape of the resilient ring. The latter is made from coiled wire round bent to form a circle. The U-shaped sealing ring has one arm bent outwards to form a lip which fits into an annular groove around one face of the clamping ring. One outer side of the sealing ring has a square corner for strength, and the other side, which is rounded is wedged tangentially against the sloping surface of a flange round the inside of the valve body.
