PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing device for improving follow-up to a dynamic body object. SOLUTION: The automatic focusing device includes a focusing adjustment means for focusing the object by detecting a focus state to the object on the basis of an output signal from an imaging element while scanning a focus lens in an optical axis direction of the object, and adjusting the position of the focus lens in response to a detection result of the focus state to the object; and a control means controlling so as to perform focus adjustment by performing scanning operation of the focus lens accompanying photographing of this time on the basis of the position of the focus lens in photographing before last time in the case of continuous photographing. When in the control means, a time interval from last time photographing to this time continuous photographing is wider than the time interval in each continuous photographing up to the last time photographing, the position adjustment of the focus lens based on scanning operation is performed from the prior photographing to the this time continuous photographing in a plurality of times (S413-S418, S409).
