<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-sized writing instrument which can stably be gripped at the time of writing, and also, is convenient for carrying. <P>SOLUTION: A barrel 3 and a cap 6 are constituted of a synthetic resin. A total length A under a state in which the cap 6 is fitted on the nib 12 side of the barrel 3 is 120 mm or less. A total length B of the barrel 3 under a state in which the cap 6 is removed is from 70 mm to 100 mm.
