PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage medium that can be used for general purposes.SOLUTION: An information processing system includes a storage medium and an information processing apparatus that performs short-distance wireless communication with the storage medium. The storage medium has an appearance representing, in two or three dimensions, an object which appears in a virtual space generated through execution of a predetermined application program by the information processing apparatus. The storage medium also stores object information regarding the object. The information processing apparatus writes character image information which identifies an image of a character generated on the basis of an instruction from a user, into the storage medium. The information processing apparatus executes predetermined processing by using at least one of the object information and the character image information read from the storage medium.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
