PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection apparatus and inspection method in which whether or not a remote controller or the like is normally operated, without performing high-level image processing in a display device of a television or the like. SOLUTION: An inspection apparatus 21 for inspecting an operation function on a display screen of a display 12 of a liquid crystal television 11 is characterized in comprising: a scenario holding unit 41 for storing a procedure of inspection; a scenario processing unit 31 for generating, outputting a control signal for executing the inspection; a mask processing unit 33 for generating, outputting a mask control signal; a camera 23 in which the inspection is execution in accordance with an inspection control signal and a display picture of which light transmission is controlled by the mask control signal, is picked up; an expectation image holding unit 44 for generating and storing an expectation display picture to be displayed by inspection and mask control; and a determination processing unit 35 for comparing the picked-up display picture and the expectation display picture to determine whether or not an object to be inspected is being operated normally.
