A level measuring device, which is equipped with an ultrasonic transducer for generating ultrasonic pulses and receiving echo-signals indicating the respective level, is provided with a further circuit which ensures that the device works at its optimum frequency. For this purpose, the decay phase of the ultrasonic transducer is preferably exploited.
