PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of orienting obliquely a polymer film which shows a high score rate in a polarizing plate cutting process or in a phase difference film cutting process, to provide a polarizing plate and a phase difference film constituted of the obtained obliquely oriented polymer film, having a high performance and being inexpensive and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: In the method of orienting the optical polymer film, the locus L1 of a holding means from a substantial hold start point to a substantial hold release point at one end of the polymer film and the locus L2 of the holding means from the substantial hold start point to the substantial hold release point at another end of the film, and a distance W between the two substantial hold release points, satisfy the following formula (1): |L2-L1|>0.4 W. After the polymer film is oriented with the bearing properties thereof held and in presence of the state of a volatile component rate of 5% or more, the volatile component rate is lowered, while the film is made to shrink. |
