Water softening system - passing hard water over conductive material at negative potential to water contacting counter electrode

In a water softening system, the water is passed over an electronically conductive material which is held at a negative potential relative to a counter-electrode in contact with the water. After the softening operation the water is purified mechanically. This is a simple method of water softening which needs no maintenance. No chemicals or ion exchangers are required. Even very hard water is satisfactorily softened.
