PURPOSE:To prevent forgetting the setting of a parking brake on parking and make the getting on and off of a car easier by releasing the locking mechanism of a steering column assembly when both of the operating signal of a parking brake and the door opening signal on the driver's side are given. CONSTITUTION:When a parking brake is set at the time of parking by operating a parking brake lever 12, a first locking member 81 comes off from a locking hole 71, being interlocked with the lever 12. Then, when a door 13 is opened, a second locking member 82 comes off from a locking hole 72, being interlocked with the door 13. Thereby a movable bracket 7 is made free, and a steering shaft 2 and a column shaft 3, together with the movable bracket 7, are spring up by means of the spring force of a coil spring 14 for springing. If a driver is about to get off a car by opening the door 13 without setting the parking brake, since the first locking member 81 is on a locking condition, both of the shafts 2, 3 do not spring up. Thereby, the driver can be known that he has forgotten to set the steering brake. |
