ROUGH WIRING METHOD AND APPARATUS AND RECORDING MEDIUM STORING ROUGH WIRING PROGRAM

A rough wiring method for creating a rough wiring between net terminals of cells arranged on a VLSI chip. First, a Steiner tree is generated as an initial solution without restrictions such as on layer, inhibition, and wiring capacity. Then, a rough wiring is created by repeatedly modifying the Steiner tree not to increase the line lengths as much as possible considering such restrictions as on inhibited region, wiring capacity, and layer in accordance with the initial solution of the Steiner tree. The Steiner tree is modified by generating a path set of divided paths having values of Steiner points which are intersections of at least three branches.
