摘要 The invention relates to a compact colourimeter that can be submerged in liquids, for monitoring the colour of (translucent or opaque) liquid samples according to CIELAB standards, whether as an average of the sample colour (punctual) or as the distribution of the colour in a specific area of the sample. The colourimeter can perform in situ, in-production-line, real-time monitoring periodically at continuous time intervals and in an automated manner. The colourimeter consists of a submersible probe, a colour CCD video camera used as a colour sensor, and means for converting the RGB information into CIELAB colour parameters. The probe contains two lighting systems, a front one and an LED-based backlit one, and the necessary optics for capturing the light from the monitored sample. The first system allows the colour of opaque samples to be measured by means of reflectance and the second allows the colour of translucent samples to be measured by means of transmittance. RGB colour parameters are converted to the CIELAB standard by means of three artificial neural networks with independent configurations, one for each of the L*a*b colour parameters. The colourimeter has relevant uses in diverse industrial processes in the chemical, biotechnology and food industries, inter alia, and the use of the colourimeter can be extended to the monitoring of macro- or micro-particles in process fluids.
