Power operated garage doors are designed to include an alarm facility that is triggered if any attempt is made to force the doors open. The sliding doors are opened by movement of a rod (5) coupled to a chain drive (13). The rod end is fixed to a moving carrier (4) located in a guide strip (6) set into the garage floor base. Stiffness for the drive system is provided by a motor (11) operating through a reduction gear. An alarm switch (14) is mounted on the gearbox housing and is operated by a moving contact.
