The side hung door (5) is mounted in a wall-fixed frame (4), opens externally i.e. under the action of an external pull, and is designed with fittings to discourage illegal entry. The fittings may include a metal 'T' section coverplate (12), hinges (6) with demountable axle pins locked in position when the door is closed, and a post-fixed stepped sill beam (14). The cover-plate (12) is fixed to the free edge of the door (5) with the web and one flange housing the external corner and, thus, masks the vertical joint between the door (5) and the frame (4). The door is originally installed with bottom clearance and the sill beam (14) eliminates play whilst forming a draught excluder and seal.
