PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side member structure of a vehicle body capable of increasing collision energy absorbing amount, regarding the side member structure of a vehicle body of an automobile, etc. for absorbing collision energy. SOLUTION: An energy absorbing part 30 is disposed between a side member main body part 20 of a front side member 10 and a dash panel 22. The shape of the energy absorbing part 30 from viewpoint of the vehicle body vertical direction is wider from a vehicle body front side to be a vehicle body end part side toward a vehicle body rear side to be a cabin 18 side. The energy absorbing part 30 is constituted of a plurality of vertical wall parts, a plurality of lateral wall parts and ribs disposed within a cell constituted of the plurality of vertical wall parts and the plurality of lateral wall parts. Plate thickness of the ribs is thinner as compared with plate thickness of the plurality of vertical wall parts and plate thickness of the plurality of lateral wall parts.
