Surveying marker

The peg for surveying a conical shaped head, and a peg which passes vertically through this into the ground. The peg is hollow, and allows a retaining element to be driven down its core, prior to splaying out under ground to provide a secure anchorage for the device. The peg for marking positions on the ground comprises a head (1) which is a truncated conical shape, having an aperture formed vertically through the center. A shoulder (5) inside this aperture receives the collar (8) on the top of an elongate hollow peg (6). Towards the bottom of the hollow peg (6) there are slots (10), and a retaining element (3) is fitted inside the hollow peg, with legs projecting at this point. Once embedded in the ground, a tool is used to push the retaining element down the center of the hollow peg, so that when it reaches the apertures (10) the legs move out sideways. A number of different cross-sections are available for the hollow peg, and a number of different shaped retaining elements may be used.
