A filter, for extruders or injection moulding machines which continuously process thermoplastics, is located between the inlet and outlet of a barrel and can be replaced; it has feed and discharge sides; a filter plate with coarse filter cover is on the inlet side, whilst the discharge side has a filter candle plate. Pref. in the example shown the plastic material flows to the supply side (2) and through the filter (1), entering first the two coarse filters (4, 5) after which it flows through the candle type filter (7) attached to the mounting plate (10). Clearly the first side (2) removes the coarsest particles. The fine filter (7) has a large cross-section of flow so as to provide a rapid through flow. ADVANTAGE - The filter has a high capacity but is very efficient.
