OPTICAL SYNCHRONIZATION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical synchronization technology and its application for realizing a compact light signal processing apparatus.

SOLUTION: Phase modulation wherein a frequency chirp is made to be 0 in the timing to be desirably matched and the frequency chirp is made to be linearly large in a positive or negative direction as a timing is deviated from this timing is applied to signal beams of respective wavelengths consisting of pulse columns having different timings. Thereby, optical pulse deviated from the timing to be desirably matched receives the frequency chirp according to its deviation amount. A WDM signal beam thus receiving the chirp is passed through a linear dispersion medium, so that dispersion corresponding to the amount of the frequency chirp can be given. The pulse of each wavelength is made to be a pulse of the timing to be desirably matched by adjusting the amount of dispersion.
