PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the determination accuracy for a black character, a color character and an image part (gradation part) without increasing the scale of a circuit for image processing.SOLUTION: An image area determination section 11 specifies the area attribute of each pixel in input color image data as any one of a character area, a white background area, a non-white background area and a halftone area, and also specifies the background attribute of each pixel as any one of the white background area, the non-white background area and the halftone area on the basis of the area attributes of prescribed peripheral pixels of the pixel. An area attribute correction section 12 corrects the area attribute of a target pixel having the area attribute as the character area on the basis of attribute combinations of the area attributes and the background attributes of a plurality of reference pixels present in a prescribed sized reference window including the target pixel. |
