PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide air and oil intershaft seals which realize light-weight seal assemblies that occupy smaller volumes with less leakage than labyrinth seals and other conventional seals.SOLUTION: An embodiment includes forward and aft shafts 100, 102, a forward lock-nut 104 on an aft end of the forward shaft, an aft lock-nut 106 on a forward end of the aft shaft, and a seal ring 94 between the forward and aft lock-nuts. The seal ring 94 may be disposed in an annular ring groove 96 extending into one of the forward and aft lock-nuts 104, 106, and an annular cylindrical inner surface 122 of the other thereof is operable to seal. The aft lock-nut 106 may include an annular arm 120 having the annular cylindrical inner surface 122. Retention tabbed rings 110, 112 may engage the lock-nuts and the shafts, and snap rings 125, 132 may engage the retention tabbed rings and the lock-nuts.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
