<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence (EL) device of high luminescence efficiency and long life and a luminescent material for the organic EL device. <P>SOLUTION: The luminescent material for the organic EL device comprises an anthracene derivative of asymmetric structure represented by general formula (1) (wherein, Ar is a condensed aromatic group having 10-50 nuclear carbon atoms; Ar' is an aromatic group having 6-50 nuclear carbon atoms; X is an alkyl group or the like; and (a), (b) and (c) are each an integer of 0-4).
