PURPOSE: A keyboard for a public terminal is provided to simplify the character input for a public device and to enable smooth management and repair of the system by converting the scan code values, which gets transferred from the keyboard matrix to the input device BIOS, into those scan code values that are identical to the ordinary keyboard. CONSTITUTION: A large button keyboard matrix's scan code values are transmitted to the input device BIOS. The input device scan code conversion program uses the input device BIOS and the input device buffer to convert the codes into general scan code values. The application program receives scan code values that are identical to the ordinary computer keyboard values. In some instances, the keyboard matrix's scan code values are transmitted to the application program without being converted into general scan code values.
