PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overheating of a motor due to disconnection of winding by detecting the value of a current flowing into an inverter in synchronism with an interruption signal generated from an interruption signal generating means thereby eliminating the need for increasing the input current of the inverter. SOLUTION: When an interruption signal generating means 21 outputs an interruption signal, a current detecting means 16 detects an input current value of an inverter 3 and also detects a moment when the input current value goes zero. Consequently, a processing section 15 makes a decision that any one of threephase windings 2 is disconnected and turns off six switching element entirely thus stopping a motor 1. More specifically, disconnection of any one of three- phase windings 2 is detected surely and the motor 1 can be stopped by stopping the inverter 3 and the motor 1 is protected against overheat by supplying power to the motor 1 under disconnected state while preventing an overcurrent from flowing into the inverter 3.
