404,788. Racket-presses. ALEXANDER, J. W., Westmere, Alderbrook Road, Solihull, near Birmingham. Nov. 10, 1932, No. 31755. [Class 132 (ii).] A racket-press having a pair of wood or metal frames or plates between which the racket is clamped is provided with metal fittings, each fitting comprising a pair of metal nuts adapted to be attached to the frames or plates, and a right and left hand screw engaging the nuts, the screw being provided with a finger piece situated between the nuts. The frames a are provided with nuts c in metal plates b secured at the corners, the two frames being drawn together by screws e with a right and left hand thread. Nuts c lie in recesses d at the corners of the frames. A milled finger piece f for manipulating a screw is provided on the screw between the frames. The frames a are prevented from being pulled apart by screws g, the heads engaging in recesses in one of the frames. The screws g are preferably arranged nearer to one end of the frames a than the other so that a wider separation can be produced at the latter end to facilitate insertion of the racket. The plates or nuts of the fittings can be readily manufactured by die-casting operations. The screws can be readily formed from metal rods on appropriate lengths of which the right and left hand threads can be readily rolled. The finger piece can conveniently be cast on the portion of the screw lying between adjacent ends of the threads. In a modification the nuts may be made in the form of bushes which can be driven into apertures in the wood frame, the exterior of the bushes being suitably ridged to effect secure engagement with the frames.
|
