PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant excellent in flame retardancy itself, having good dispersibility in molded products and causing no bad appearance, a flame retardant resin composition blended with the flame retardant and a molded product. SOLUTION: The flame retardant comprises magnesium hydroxide particles having (a) 100-1000 mass ppm content of an iron compound converted to the iron atom, (b) 100-1000 mass ppm content of a phosphorus compound converted to the phosphorus atom, (c) 1-15m<SP>2</SP>/g specific surface area by BET method and (d) 0.5-2μm average particle size.
