PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always shorten time taken for a series of processes of cutting, regardless of the height of an object to be cut. SOLUTION: This cutting device has a pressing member vertically and reciprocatively driven by driving a motor 24 and a cutting blade vertically and reciprocatively driven by driving a motor 28, and presses the object 1 to be cut positioned on a base by lowering the pressing member and cuts the object 1 by lowering the cutting blade. The motor 24 is provided with an encoder 38 to detect height and position of the object 1 to be cut. Prescribed amount is added to the height of the object 1 detected by the encoder 38, and the added amount is set as a standby position of the pressing member in a setting memory 31d. Further, prescribed amount is added, and the added amount is set as a standby position of the cutting blade in the setting memory 31d. The pressing member and the cutting blade are made to stand by at positions having each of the set values, and the cutting is performed by lowering the pressing member and the cutting blade from the positions. As a result, the time taken for a cutting one cycle is shortened since the pressing member and the cutting blade are made to stand by at the positions corresponding to the height of the object 1.
