A DNA encoding a polypeptide containing the amino acid sequence that is represented by SEQ NO:1 in SEQUENCE LISTING or a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence that is derived from the above-described amino acid sequence by at least one of deletion, addition, insertion or substitution of one or more amino acid residues and having an endoglycoceramidase activity. Because of enabling the production of highly pure endoglycoceramidase by a convenient procedure, the above DNA is appropriately usable in studies on sphingoglycolipids, synthesis of artificial sphingoglycolipids and so on.
