The present invention relates to use of dihydrofuran cyclic tanshintones having formula (I) or compositions containing one of them for manufacturing medicine in preventing or treating hyperammonemia caused by chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis, including hepatic encephalopathy and subclinical hepatic encephalopathy caused by hyperammonemia, wherein R< is selected from -CH?CH?CH?C(CH?)?-, -CHCHCHC(CH?)-, -CH?CH?CHC(CH?)-,or -CH?CH?CH?C(CH?)-; R? is H or C?-C?-alkyl and the like.
