<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink for ink jet recording that can achieve good glossiness, mapping property, and mapping clarity upon printing on an exclusive paper sheet and a high printing concentration upon printing on a regular paper sheet and to provide an ink jet recording method. <P>SOLUTION: The aqueous ink for ink jet recording contains a water dispersion for ink jet recording that contains a water-insoluble graft polymer particles being dispersed therein and that contains a colorant, wherein the water-insoluble graft polymer comprises a main chain and a side chain described below. The ink jet recording method comprises printing the aqueous ink on a void-type glossy medium with an ink receiving layer using an ink jet recording apparatus. The main chain contains (a) a unit derived from a monomer containing a salt generation group and (b) a unit derived from a (meth)acrylate monomer containing an aromatic ring.
