An image forming apparatus comprising: an image forming device configured to form an image; a conveyance member configured to convey the image formed by the image forming device; a sensor configured to detect the image to be conveyed by the conveyance member; and a control device configured to: control the image forming device to form a pattern image for positional deviation correction, the pattern image being configured by a plurality of marks;obtain a deviation value of an image formation position on the basis of a detection result of the pattern image detected by the sensor; anddetermine a number of marks of the pattern image to be formed next time or later, comprising: calculating a difference between a first deviation value, which is a deviation value obtained from a first combination of combinations of the marks configuring the pattern image, and a second deviation value, which is a deviation value obtained from a second combination of which a number of the marks is smaller than the first combination;determining whether the difference between the first deviation value and the second deviation value is smaller than a defined value; andin response to determining that the difference between the first deviation value and the second deviation value is smaller than the defined value, determining the number of marks of the pattern image to be formed next time or later to a number that is smaller than the number of the marks of the first combination.
