The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for discriminating a clinical symptom of a hepatic disease such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is non-invasive and is highly accurate. A method for discriminating between non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), said method comprising the steps of: (1) measuring the amounts of marker molecules contained in blood collected from a subject; (2) determining an index value from a normalized score that is calculated on the basis of the amounts of the marker molecules belonging to the same group; and (3) determining that the subject is suspected to be suffering from NASH when the index value is larger than a reference value.
