PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide patterned media having novel structure. SOLUTION: A plurality of convex members 2991 are provided in an array form on a substrate 2990. The convex member has such a shape that the cross section at a plane in parallel to the substrate becomes smaller toward the substrate. Magnetic recording layers 2992 are formed in upper parts 2993 of the convex members so that the magnetic recording layers are not in contact with one another between adjacent upper surfaces. Patterned media are obtained in such a way. The convex member is formed of an oxide, resin or metal. The height of the convex member is within a range from 5 nm to 29 nm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
