Method for destructing munitions

The munitions are brought into a detonation chamber where they are struck by a hammer constructed as a weight (9) falling under the influence of gravity. The hammer causes the housing of the munition to deform, so that openings form in the housing causing the temperature to rise and the explosive to anneal or deflagrate. In the case of oblong munitions, the hammer strikes the munition from a direction lateral to the munitions longitudinal axis. The gas present in the detonation chamber is extracted, collected and/or filtered. A guide device (6) is provided for the hammer which guides the hammer during its acceleration under gravity.
