PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video audio signal recording and reproducing device that can record newest management information with respect to AV data to a recording disk medium so as to normally reproduce the AV data even when recording is interrupted due to a power supply voltage drop. SOLUTION: The video audio signal recording and reproducing device is provided with a power supply voltage detection circuit 109 that monitors a power supply voltage of the device to detect a power supply voltage drop. A system control circuit 107 controls a 2nd memory 104 to periodically record management information stored/updated by the 2nd memory 104 to a recording disk medium 301 when receiving a notice of the power supply voltage drop from the power supply voltage detection circuit. Furthermore, in the case of the device handling a recording disk medium 401 whose recording area is divided into zones in a radial direction, when the device detects the power supply voltage drop, the management information is recorded in a prescribed management information reserve area of the same zone in which AV data are recorded.
