PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy converting mechanism capable of improving energy converting efficiency, and keeping high power generation efficiency to some extent even when water flow and tidal current change.SOLUTION: An energy converting mechanism includes: a vertical shaft water turbine 10; and water flow control means 20 for controlling water flow supplied to the vertical shaft water turbine 10. The water flow control means 20 has a plurality of water flow control plates 21 disposed around the vertical shaft water turbine 10. The water flow control plates 21 are flat plates disposed so that their surfaces 21s are in parallel with a rotating shaft 11 of the vertical shaft water turbine 10. The plurality of water flow control plates 21 are disposed so that gaps 21h respectively formed between adjacent water flow control plates 21, 21, are gradually narrowed toward the vertical shaft water turbine 10. As a flow rate of the water flowing toward the vertical shaft water turbine can be increased with respect to the water flow in a region of the energy converting mechanism 1 by the water flow control means, a rotating speed of the vertical shaft water turbine 10 can be increased, thereby energy converting efficiency can be improved. |
