The test stand (1) comprises a head support (4) for fastening a welding head (2) to be tested that is removed from a welding robot, and a control arrangement (5) for operating the welding head for carrying out the welding process. The head support has holding joints for supply lines which are complementarily arranged to a head joint formed at the welding head and are complementarily arranged to a robot joint formed at the welding robot. A workpiece holder is provided for fastening a workpiece (11), is coupled with the control arrangement and has an operatable positioning device. The test stand (1) comprises a head support (4) for fastening a welding head (2) to be tested that is removed from a welding robot, and a control arrangement (5) for operating the welding head for carrying out the welding process. The head support has holding joints for supply lines which are complementarily arranged to a head joint formed at the welding head and are complementarily arranged to a robot joint formed at the welding robot. A workpiece holder is provided for fastening a workpiece (11), is coupled with the control arrangement and has an operatable positioning device for moving the workpiece relative to the welding head. The control arrangement is arranged between the workpiece and the welding head for carrying out a sequence of several welding process at the workpiece in different relative positions. The welding head is arranged as a bolt welding head. The control arrangement has a welding head control for operating the welding head and a test stand control connected with the welding head control for operating the welding head control with the welding head mounted at the head support. The test stand control is arranged for operating the positioning device and/or for evaluating the signals of the welding head control.
