PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably operating a blast furnace when increasing a production quantity by increasing a blast volume in a blast furnace. SOLUTION: This operation method comprises: when increasing the production quantity in the operation of the blast furnace, increasing the blast volume in response to the increase of the production quantity, and simultaneously adjusting air velocity at a tuyere into a predetermined range by adjusting a tuyere diameter; or further charging coke having predetermined strength in response to the air velocity at the tuyere. When increasing the production quantity of the blast furnace by 1%, it is preferable to increase the blast volume by 1% and adjust the tuyere diameter so that the air velocity at the tuyere increases by 1.2 to 2%, or further to charge the coke having the coke strength increased by 0.1 to 0.2 point by DI, per 1% increase of the air velocity at the tuyere.
